Surprisingly I havent been playing that much video games since I perminately fucked up my wrist.
Not surprising at all, and actually completely understandable. Not much fun to do something that causes you pain.
You know, I think this is probably the last generation of consoles as we know them. I mean, they are selling upgraded versions of consoles as if they are PCs now, which is already having a lot of steadfasts deciding that PC Master Race is the future. I mean, with Steam boxes and the fact you can use the same controller as a console, plus all of the mods and DLC becoming the new norm..
There's just not much point to another console generation.
Nintendo will always do their own thing no matter what, but as much as I love Zelda I won't buy a whole console for it (I still refuse to buy a Switch, I just got Breath of the Wild for Wii U).
I havent really played a Nintendo console since the Game Cube. And I havent owned a gameboy since the game boy color
So when it comes to videogames, unless my pc can run it, I just have to content myself with watching play throughs on youtube.
I am reviving this thread because Games Are Still Life, dammit!
After I stopped writing fic last year while grieving the death of my fandom, and went through a slump of depression, I decided to start working on my backlog (I'll still die with a stack of unplayed games, but, maybe it'll be a little smaller).
I charged up the ol' PSP and booted up Tactics Ogre: Let us Cling Together. And yes, I do still snicker at the title.
So I got into that, and then realized a few hours in that with all of the betrayals, death of major characters, political machinations and countless shades of grey morality.. I was basically playing ASOIAF with a different name.
I ended up putting the PSP down, feeling all of the old wounds open anew, and mentally sat in a dark corner with my knees pulled up against my chest while mumbling 'can't sleep, clown will eat me. Can't sleep, clown will eat me.'
So what is the point of this?
Nothing really, it's just a funny story I can look back on. And I felt like having an active thread going about games again XD
Be the change you want to see in the world.
Because if that's the line that reeled in Starky, someone else could be out there too, waiting for the courage to step forward and share their thoughts and talents. We're really not as scary as you might think
pfft if it was the first ten seasons I'm usually reading your mind.
I did like Overwatch, even though I get motion sick and absolutely suck at FPS games (the last time I was ANY good was Goldeneye, so just let that marinate for a minute)
But, other than hidden Starky PTSD, JRPGs are just weird. Like in FFVII (I replayed it like 7 years ago for MrsMunky for a bit) you have to outsquat a transvestite (because this was BEFORE trans* became a word) body builder to steal their wig and dress and go pretend to be a prostitute to go rescue your new party member, like, that was the first mission almost.
WoW is so changed that I can't even use my hotkeys anymore and needed to reroll/respecialize my NE Hunter so I deleted my subscription.
Diablo 3 was nice for a bit, but there's only so many Torment runs you can do.
In truth, the only thing that I had time for was colored block puzzle games on Android.

Aaaand screaming offspring needs to be put to bed, so I'm off for tonight, I think.
And having a hell of a time with this new world changing headcanon paradigm shift. If White Walkers, FM, Stonemen, and the resurrected servants of R'hllor are All wargs.
Who or what is doing the warging?

I no longer feel so bad for my lack of gaming tbh. I honestly just deleated D3 from my computer recently too.

This is actually very true. I used to play quite a few of them - but now I only make exceptions for Final Fantasy (because XV made me Have Feelings Again for a while, do not even try to fight me on this if you see that ending and don't get attacked by the Onion Ninjas you have no soul, seriously), the Persona series, and Dragon Quest (Warrior). I would say Xenoblade as well, but those games are so frickin' open world I find it really hard to categorize them as JRPGs.
I just can't deal with the (almost always) school-age characters, the linearity, and the severely overused tropes.
Power of Friendship saves the world.. again... yay... -_-;;
In my old age I crave games that give me freedom, agency, and exploration.
Or, if there is a linear narrative to the game, make it a Damn Good One (Yakuza 0, sort of an open world/Action/RPG hybrid, is an absolutely fantastic example).
Also, Dungeon Crawlers. Etrian Odyssey seems to have opened the floodgates on this genre, and I am shamefully addicted.

I think the last JRPG I played was Final Fantasy 12. I couldnt get passed XIII's combat system. And X's blitz ball.
I suppose other then that... Theres Dragons Dogma. But I'm hardly playing that for the story, and more for the open world and combat.

Lol. shit talk about some food for thought. Have fun chewing on that while you try to sleep.
This is mainly for lawlessness but might interest others.
Some months ago when Prey (Bethesda/Arkane) Studios first released I watched a few youtube playthroughs by some streamers I like. Originally I had no interest in the game, but it gave me something to watch in between seasons of verious shows I like.
Prey is not the sort of game I am normally interested in, its a dark scifi FPS horror/jump-scare/mystery type of game. Its by the same people who did Dishonored, which I more or less also found interesting and played a bit of. and its a good game. But not my usual sort, and watching it isnt the same as playing it. Recently a steamer I have followed for years now started his play through of it which renewed my interests in the game, and it was very recently on sale on Steam (its not any more.) but in looking for the game on sale elsewhere I found out theres a demo for it.
I'm... sevreal hours into the game now. 4-5 I think, and havent progressed the story passed finding the main characters office. (I'm unsure at what story point the demo ends so I dont want to attempt to press matters) that said, other then the story locked zones, it seems I can go anywhere if I have the wit and abilites to do so. And given that I have watched other playthroughs I also happen to know a number of secrets and locations for useful things which means I'm not some weak noob. Which is why I left the difficulty setting on normal instead of easy.
The game is... fun. Like its an enjoyable game that I can sink hours into (obviously) and even though my computer can only run it on medium its a really pretty game. With pretty music (though sadly its better to either turn it down really really low, or off totally because hearing in game sounds is more important then mood music)
The game uses stealth, minor puzzle solving/clue hunting with exploration and good old shot-gun-to-the-face/hit-it-with-your-wrench game play mechanics and a skill system that requires you to hunt down (and eventually create) items called "Nuromods" in order to unlock new abilities. And it has a interesting recycle/crafting system to add in a bit of a 'survival' mechanic to it. Though the inventory management does get a bit annoying, as I found myself making repeated trips back to the recycler in the main characters office to clear out my inventory of junk, even with the first upgrade to my suit which expands my inventory.
Having spent a number of hours in the game myself now, and having seen numerous playthrough videos I can honestly rate this game a good solid 8/10 keeping in mind that its not my usual sort or game. I think the biggest draw backs are how loud the audio is, more so if you are wearing headphones. And the fact my headphones tend to give me a headache. (but that I didnt factor into the score) as well as the pc required specs (I have 12gb ram, and a GTX 960, and a FX 8320, and it autosets to medium)
Taking personal experiences and what I know into consideration, and my 8/10 rating the question still remains, while factoring in the fact this isnt my usual sort of game.... Would I personally buy this game?
Yes, yes I would; if it was on sale again.
Second question is.. would I recommend this game to someone?
Yes; more so if they like games like this, like dishonored and other like games. Plus, if to be perfectly blunt, 2017 has been a realitively shitty year so far for PC games, and Prey is def one of the top ones. (I dream of Horizon Zero Dawn but sadly, that is not for the PC)
Edit: I figured out where the Trail/demo ends. You're unable to access the Hardware labs. After five+ hours I have pretty much gone everywhere else that I can access, and I do wish I could continue playing. So its a game I will be getting once I have a job again.
I gotta wonder why there's so many clowns here on this thread but Real question time Anyone getting Farcry 5? What are your opinions of the other games in the series
Never been played far cry but have heard great things about the series.
I prefer fantasy mmos like Dragon age and neverwinter.
I too prefer fantasy RPGs, but I do quite enjoy the systems employed by farcry. Imcluding the ridiculousness that was farcry blood dragon. It was terrible in the best way
