Ok, I had my cheesy Princess Bride crossover moment. I'll behave myself now.

So, hi - I'm Starky. I write Stargaryen/Danarya fanfiction under the starkyd7 pen name. I'm currently taking a break from writing as I adjust to my new 'marriage to my job', but look forward to returning to the ranks once things settle. In the meantime, I'm enjoying reading the new fics being posted in our little fandom like a greedy bastard. =D

So, I'm a corporate slave who has far more ideas than actual time to write about them, and I enjoy all of the fine Standard Nerd Activities:
-Reading
-Gaming
-Watching stuff on Netflix while lounging in boxers and eating raw cookie dough
-Avoiding the outside world

I want to send a thankful shout out to mr_mustachio, our good General, and Issandri for setting this message board up.
And the Tumblr
And for sketching D/A art
And for writing D/A oneshots

...basically for doing all of the stuff I would have if I was cool.

Aye, my friend and I decided to use the name 'Danarya' instead, mostly because other people who were shipping Jon/Dany, Sansa/Dany (and I think i saw Bran/Dany stuff a couple of times too?) have started using 'Stargaryen', which makes mostly the tagging/search system difficult if you wish filter out all the other stuff. But hey! We can still use Stargaryen here of course! ;D

Yeah, we're using both Stargaryen and Danarya now for the reasons Tony mentioned.
Unfortunately some people are fools, and can not see the light when it comes to the appropriate pairings and tagging things >=/

But, as long as it's Dany/Arya, I can work with just about anything.

I was actually just thinking about you the other day Revan - I realized that depending on the course HBO takes with how the FM work (currently they seem to utilize 'form changing', NOT just 'face changing - ie, Jaqen has become The Waif, a thin young woman, AND a heavyset older black man already) and whether or not Arya 'steals' that ability before she leaves Braavos, we may end up with a slew of new G!Peen fics.
Because if Arya can be 'anyone', regardless of gender, you know -exactly- what people will be doing with her...

And... you know what? A master posting of Stargaryen fic would be a great idea. Might be some new arrivals to the 'ship want to know what they should be reading, and we don't have a list compiled anywhere for them. That'd be pretty awesome.

To be honest, I'm personally not against the idea of GP! If it is done well, and done in a tasteful manner, of course. In fact, I myself am interested in exploring the idea of Arya switching genders, and her emotions in regards to that experience. The idea of a genderfluid Arya is a very interesting concept indeed, and something of a comforting idea for myself, what with being a genderqueer person and all xD

If GP! is well-written and has some kind of an explanation, it can be entirely cool. Like, you mention Arya switching genders here - well, that alone is an explanation. Even having a FM transformation is an explanation (that was the impression I had with 'Queen of the Closet' - a FM transformation for some kind, and that worked for me). Something that actually fits into a plot (which is part of 'good writing', the goal to which we all strive) is all I personally need.
And something that actually addresses the -emotions- in regards to that sort of change? Like... having some depth? Sign me up!

Unfortunately... most... aren't like that...

Oh dont get me wrong. G!Peen can be done right. Magical strapons, Alpha-Omaga Verse stories, ect ect. They have their place. I just want them labled right. Nothings worse then going into a story expecting some canon verse fluff and getting G!Peen smut instead.

More so if you go with the HBO take where apparently the FM can change their whole forms, not just their faces. Of I see canon adult Arya as more androgonist then gender fluid really.

One thing I find interesting about Arya is theres generally no set rule for how tall she is in the fandom. Many, like myself write her as short(like her actress). but I've seen others write her as tall. (like others in her family). Then when it comes Arya/Dany, its always amusing to see that no one can decide who'd be taller. (I've always had a soft spot for Arya being just ever so slightly shorter the Dany. )

And I'm not gonna lie, the one major advantage of a -well-written- G!Peen story is Little Stargaryens Running Around Without Unwanted Third Party Involvement.
If you're gonna go G!Peen, via whatever means - get rid of the damn 'heir issue' right away.
Avoid The 'Bloodlines' Tragedies.

I can even give decent canon reasoning for Arya being smol. She ran around the south for how long? She basically spent her tweens half starved most the time, and simply malnourished the other part. So she simply didnt get enough to eat to grow as tall as her siblings. (And I could even head canon in a short grandmother or something as well. Someone equally bad ass... acutally. thats a good idea. let me make a note of that)

Anyways, I simply like a fellow smol sister kicking ass and taking names. And you gotta admit, the idea of tiny she-wolf all armored and growling in defiance as she protects Dany, who is taller then her is great.

To be honest, there is legit reason for Arya being short for sure. It's logical, and no one could successfully argue against it.
I just like her bein' a bit taller than Dany. (And until they were staying with Illyrio, Dany and Viserys were living pretty hungry and rough too, so Dany didn't have a lot of health/nutrition advantages to reach her full height potential either).

Really though, in the end - I just like Arya with Dany. Shorter or taller. I'm easy to please like that

So write on, dear Revan! Write dat smol Arya loud and proud!

I can see both Arya and Dany being the toller one and either could be amazingly cute. One thing I want to see is Arya being shorter and then growing like, a half inch taller than Dany and lording it over her like the little shit she is. Me and the General have pretty like minds on just about everything, you'll find (which is why we collab so much and so well

), so I'd love to explore Arya's identity thematically and narratively, with genderfluidity and sexuality and noble vs smallfolk and No One vs Someone and all that happy stuff. Internal conflict about the self and about who/what someone is at their core, what it means to be them... That's totally my bag.
