This is the problem I am researching both at the same time. I have been working on both the stories for about a year now, I love the research, I can't decide which to do. My Muse is a fickle mistress, one day she wants it all to be about Essos, House Dayne, Old Valyria, Dorne and the next day it is all about the Old Gods, Bloodraven and the possibility of the Children of the Forest existing in Old Valyria (before is was Valyria).
Oh man.
Okay. so I tend to suffer from what I call 'Wiki Syndrom". Its like getting sucked down the Youtube Blackhole, where one link leads to another, leads to another, and so on until the sun is rising and you havent written a single word.
And my muse tends to catch on things when I do this and spin out story ideas like no ones buisness. And it can be really really distracting.
One thing I'd suggest is.. decide the type of story you want to tell. And the length of it. For example with Red Blossoms, I decided that I was gonna tell something fluffy, but not very lengthy. Not every story needs to be an Epic after all.
Another thing you can do is post what you have for both stories, either here or on Ao3. And gadge the level of interest in both. And then focus on the one that the readers most enjoy.
Or you can be a crazy person like kabukidance and write three epic length stories at once.
Also Starky is amazing at taking the little nuggets and world building off of them. Which she did in Dany by the Docks was amazing. I still swoon over her Bravvos.
*feels like that could be a hint hint nudge nudge thought*
Revan just likes to make me blush. I'm convinced she has a tally board keeping track of it all somewhere
But I will be honest, DbtD was my favorite piece to write and a big part of it was I did have some freedom to create. When you are expanding a piece of the world that has only a barebones framework, you are free to roam without worrying about someone scowling and smacking your hand with a stick at any tiny deviation from canon. It's very liberating, and with that freedom any one of you could do just as much (if not more).
For example,I fabricated this one document that Sam finds as an Iron Apprentice in Oldtown (was going to use in Western Dawn). It talks about how the first Faceless Men escaped, led by the Moonsingers and founded Braavos, but the first No One learned the magic of the Children to cause the Doom and destroy the Valyria that enslaved him. (not kidding, it was at least a couple days worth of research in my free time, and it's a tiny thing)
To me all roads lead to Assai, in my research I always wondered what happened there. I wonder and sometimes believe that it had to do with The Children. Dragons came from Assai, it is where Dany's dragon eggs came from. Valyria obtained there Dragons in Assai, who is to say they didn't enslave the Children there to work in the mines and the first Facceless Man was one of them. I am using this little nugget in one of my stories but I am willing to share--In ASoIAF we have wargs, but some people call them skinchangers. Are they the same skill? The Faceless Men use faces to transform. What if skinchangers do not need a face of a dead person, but can just transform in anyone who is dead?

I'll be honest I adored the story because you had the freedom to build it to your own mind. So I get why Revan would have that tally board.

And this was one of my favorite pieces I read from Munky - the fact it is now seeing the light of day somewhere, well..
In the past, dragon riders were almost always at the very least dragonseed. Bastards of House Targaryen, as well as House Velaryon, usually sired by the custom of the 'First Night'. Note I said almost always, as theres always wiggle room. But this is the lore of it.
Further more, as far as the lore goes, once a dragon has chosen a rider, they would never allow another to mount them until their rider's death. Aegon's I's dragon, Balerion, the Black Dread for example, had two more riders after Aegon, Maegor I and Viserys I. (And I think he may have had at least one or two before Aegon)
And a rider wouldnt mount another dragon unless their first dragon had perished.
The thing is that If I went the way of having Jon be Rhaegal's rider. Arya wouldn't be a dragon Rider, herself but she could still warg into Rhaegal. It's based around the idea that while Rhaegal allows Jon to be his rider. The dragon would still prefer Arya's presences over Jon's. So you would be more likely to find the green dragon curled around Arya even though she's not his rider.
Ah, kinda like how Nym is Arya's wolf, but in my head she'd totally hang out with Dany (which may just be a reflection of Arya's feelings for Dany.)
In Rhaegal's case, you could have it that both his rider's (Jon) brotherly affection and close bond with Arya, and his 'mother's ' affection for Arya gives him a super soft spot for the shewolf.
There are loop holes if you know where to find them.

I will spill the secret to that awesome Braavos that made everyone fall in love with DbtD. I mean, besides Starky's general awesomeness and insane dedication when she's on point and driven.
A map. That extra whatever money she spent on a specific Braavos map gave us things like that diving scene in the Drowned Quarter, which, if left to the book's alone, we wouldn't even know Existed.
Be the change you want to see in the world.
Because if that's the line that reeled in Starky, someone else could be out there too, waiting for the courage to step forward and share their thoughts and talents. We're really not as scary as you might think

Keep in mind that warging is more difficult with intelligent animals, and I'd say dragons are fairly intelligent. There's a prologue in one of the books (related to...Varamir Sixskins, I think...?) about warging into a non-Hodor human and they promptly gouge their own eyes out to try and stop him, so just keep that in mind when dragon warging.

If they are bleeding together as you write, it means that the characters themselves - personalities, dialogue, particular scenes you want - are actually what you are more interested in right now. The worldbuilding is secondary.
This may sound crazy, but I actually recommend just writing those portions out now. Don't worry about which fic they fit into; you can decide that after you have completed them. After they're done, you'll know where the pieces will best shine.
When a writer is faced with indecision, or is reluctant to write a chapter, it's because they're dreading something. Whether that is making a tough decision, or typing out something they are obligated to write but don't really feel like writing, etc. Don't write what you are dreading. Write all of the other stuff surrounding what you are dreading, and go back to that piece later. And you may have an entirely new approach to make it fit at that point.
Excellent Starky, that is what I will do. Since I was a freelance script writer/screenwriter, that is the best way to approach this. I will go back to my strength, then fill in latter. Why didn't I think of that?
I have several 'scenes' of dialogue for both, but only one is flowing much better. 8 chapters in I think I will go with that first story, and focus on that one through to the end (wherever that takes me).

Kind of like that although Rhaegal already is connected to Arya having met the Shewolf first from the funeral pyre. But it would be kind of like that though maybe Arya's sisterly affections for Jon are what leads Rhaegal to pick Jon as his rider.

Intrigued Starky is Intrigued. Would they even have to be dead, I wonder? Or could they just skinchange into people the same way wargs do into fuzzies? So many possibilities...

I have kept that in mind. Which is why when she first did it. It was Rhaegal the dragon himself pulling Arya into his mind rather than her slipping into him. I wasn't thinking of it being a nightly thing like with Nymeria but in emergencies where their minds reach out to pull her into him. If that makes any sense.

All completely true. I spent $40 on the entire maps of Ice and Fire set, just for that one map. Which now has a tear along the fold from overuse.

I like the term 'Wiki Syndrome' my manifests with more stories popping into my head while I research. I don't want to do both of the same time that will drive me crazier than I already am. I will be posting here, I think I would rather share here my first time around, it is a safe space. Thanks Rev
