But Revan, ::puts on pretentious PC voice:: then you're marginalizing the other letters that aren't included!
(Please note the pretension as my true lack of sincerity to being a PC brah ((see:Southpark)))
In case anyone was curious, HuffPost did an article about the current acronym. They added S to two spirit, making it 2S (and unnecessarily long, in my book), fleshed out both the dual meanings of Q and A, and added P for the Pansexual folks.
Munky's Proposed "Egalitarian" Acronym: LGBTPIAQ2
Fuck those extra double letters, the rest I do in favor of unalterable visibility, traditional order or chronological voice having in the Community, because I disagree with LGBTQQIP2SAA.
Because if that's the line that reeled in Starky, someone else could be out there too, waiting for the courage to step forward and share their thoughts and talents. We're really not as scary as you might think
Nevermind ::laughs hysterically:: LGBTQQFAGPBDSM Absolutely takes the Cake (which is a lie), while still managing to exclude people with a 15 character acronym. While I am a staunch ally of the kink, fuck you, 50 Shades, fuck you...
I do, however, think the #Endless hashtag is a good solution, "Wait, your letter's not on here? Just a moment, I'll tack it on for you (though no one will ever see it...). There, now we're Fully inclusive."

LGBTQ+ or LGBTQA+ (if I wanna be PC) is about as far as I go. Queer and + basically covers all those other letters that I can never remember anyways. And if someone gets offended, sorry. BUT THATS A LOT OF FUCKING LETTERS. Seriously, the PC acronym is so long it looks like some one smashed their fingers on their keyboard in anger, and came up with it.
Or if I wanna be super lazy. Queer. We are all fucking queer. 'Case its a spectrum, and you fall somewhere on it. There for Queer works.

Absolutely, I love queer, I self identify as queer.
I just get yelled at for using it in situations with people 40 or older. But since they're old and curmudgeonly, they don't like the extra letters Either and like being LGBT(and nothing else).
Be the change you want to see in the world.

I actually was on this student panel at college for this one semminar for the college staff regarding how to be inclusive and shit. And one of the things that was brought up is how those who identify as something other then het cis, want to be addressed/labled.
I actually stressed that my generation is very much "Taking the words back and owning them", butch, dyke, queer, fag so on so forth. Owning them not just as a means of self identfying. But owning them in their original context in some cases. I further stressed that other generations, more so older ones might not be so pleased if someone called them queer or a fag-hag. or some such.
How the community lables itself is very much influx right now, even if we are still fighting the same fucking battles that boiled onto the streets with Stonewall.

This seems to be the case when I'm dealing with college aged folks, usually I'll just wait for them to tell me what newfangled pronoun they've come up with this week along with the new genderf*ck terminology like 'stud' or 'gentlestud' and just mirror that back to them. I remember being okay with dyke and using it as a label myself in college, and even getting the nickname Dykey from my gay boyfriend, but I haven't heard any of the kids using it lately.
I was on an Olivia cruise in 2011 (after we got RDP'd for our honeymoon) and used the term Queer Community in a group of older ladies and there was a sudden hush that fell over the conversation. So I think you're right on the older generation.

Stud? Gentalstud? Wha? Are we horses now? Should I be out to wrangle me up a nice mare? o.O I've been called gauntlet of slang/slurs since I came out when I was 14/15. I was known as "The Lesbian Chick" my freshmen year of highschool, please note the "the" =P. I learned to own those things really quickly. Of course, between that, and my close friends ( and my siblings as well) and I showing affection through insults. I do find myself using terms like "Fruitcup, fruit, fairy, fag, gay" to playfully insult people. (Gay is a confusing one for my age group. We've seen it go from meaning Happy > Male Homosexual with negative context > Male Homo with positive context > Stupid/Lame > Both Genders Homo neutral context.
I personally like Queer because "Asexual spectrum Lesbian with drunk bisexual tendencies" is a mouthful. Although I suppose it would be "Asexual spectrum softbutch cis lesbian with drunk bisexual tendencies" since everyone wants to know where you fall on the gender spectrum these days.
And yes, word usage really is generational. And I think the older generation does recognize that because social media means the younger generations are very active and vocal. But I try to remember that the generation that likely fell quiet when you said "Queer Community" is the same generation that lived through Stonewall, the HIV Outbreak of the 80s AND Matthew Shepard. Its kinda like your grandparents being racist asshats, -byproducts of their generation- only far less embarrassing, and more just sad.
-cough- In anycase, I think its very important that we, as a community own the words that were used to tear us as a minority down. Its makes it hard for the bigots when we say "Thankyou" when they call us shit like "Dyke" afterall (I love the look on their faces when I thank them. OR mention that I RSVP'ed for my VIP suite in Hell ages ago. ). Its also important because our acronym is so fucking long no one, not even people within the community can remember the damn thing. oO or the what the acceptable terms are today.
