While I thoroughly enjoy bashing D&D for nearly anything (and they just make it so fucking easy, don't they?), in the aftermath of 8x03 there are a lot of fans worked into a lather over one particular 'problem' which I feel needs to be addressed:
Disappointment that the Night King was built up so much only to crumple within the space of a single episode, with no explanation for his purpose or motivation aside from maybe being pissed off at the Children of the Forest for Stabby-Stab reasons.
This, sweet summer children of the internet, is not actually D&D's fault. Nor is it even GRRM's fault for never finishing the books (and he is NOT finishing them, I swear by the Old Gods and the New if anyone tries to tell me otherwise I will be forced to take Drastic Measures) - this is the HBO network's fault.
You can bet your bottom dollar that the Night King is a very real character that will be explored in the GoT prequel series. Because of this, it is likely D&D were flat out ordered by the HBO Corporate Overlords NOT to delve any deeper into the NK or his lore, because that is part of the New Golden Teat they are set to milk.
So anyone out there who is still left unsatisfied citing that reason for their displeasure is just using it as a flimsy, PC excuse. What they really mean is "we're angry that Arya Got To Have Something." And fuck them all up the ass with a rusty rod.

I thank you for this explanation. I have not watched the shows but i am following on Internet. when i read this i was like 'what the hell is this shit!" All that build up for that. Like hell GRRM wrote that. He is better than that. Hell, i am.
i can see the angle you present though. it really took away from the ending of this story though. it took away all the build up over eight years.
i refuse to believe how they are ending GOT is what GRRM had in mind.
Anyone else want just a spinoff show of Pod and Bronn having a merry old time exploring the 7 kingdoms? I could be down for that.
I just don't see how having a Long Night series is going to make as much of an impact as the original GoT series. We know what happens in the end, where is the mystery? haha
To seek out answers on matters of the heart is to make lost something that has already been found.
*sighs* I'm honestly not happy that they are going back to explore the long night in the spin off.
It'll ruin so much headcanon.
Ma Capitain, it shouldn’t ruin anything really cause on the daily I refer to fanon over canon for a lot of stuff.
“I’m not a Lady, I’m a Wolf!” "He who fights with monsters should be careful lest he thereby become a monster. And if thou gaze long into an abyss, the abyss will also gaze into thee." The tormentor becomes the tormented. People become what they love and hate, because their mind focuses on it."
Welcome~ This forum is a place for all Dany x Arya shippers to meet up and discuss the world, the lore, and the wonderful characters who make this ship! Have fun, everyone!
