It has been a hectic year to say the least for House Danarya. From the revival to the influx of new activity, to the new discord channel. This last year has been one of change.
While most of that change has been good. Some of it has been bitter sweet.
Some of you may have noticed that the Staff list has changed a lot over the the last year, the last few months... month really. And now that the Spring Cleaning is over and done with I am ready to address these changes. Bare with me, as there is much to cover and thus this may end up being of some length.
This House was founded nearly two years ago; May 21st, 2016 by a pair of brothers, Tony and Issa. It was their baby, a safe haven for our little flegling ship, free from the toxicity of tumblr, or mistags. - Indeed it was them that coined the ship name Danarya; when Stargaryen was stolen from us by Jonerys and Rheager/Lyanna shippers.
However, like so many of our humble ship, Season 6 left them feeling disillusion, uninspired and so they had faded, as too did our House.
I do not think they had had any intention of ever returning once the House had withered and seemingly died in the aftermath of Season 6, but the Houses revival, its rebirth brought them back for a time, perhaps not for the ship, but rather for the tiny community they founded.
In August of last year, the pair had jointly decided to make me a Queen's Guard, a promotion that had surprised me. Then at the end of February, by consensus of the powers that be, I was made a Lord Commander; and a month following that, the pair of them stepped down from their positions, choosing to take a back seat, serving as Maesters; advisers and in Tony's case Tech Support.
However, it was clear that their enthusiasm for the fandom had waned and died. And so as of April 18th, Tony and Issa jointly decided to turn over full ownership of House Danarya to myself.
As a result, Tony is no longer a part of House Danarya. And Issa's account remains untouched and ranked as Maester as a symbolic gesture.
Tony and Issa will both be missed here in House Danarya, and I will remain forever grateful to them for the wonderful community that they helped create. And wish them all the luck on their future endevors.
In addition to Tony's and Issa's departure, some have noticed and have questioned the fact that Starky's account has been deleted.
Starky, much as with Tony and Issa, was one of the many who was left heartbroken and gutted after Season 6. And she in fact might not have returned in the first place had I not tempted her back. While she was initially very active, both here, and once it was set up, on the discord, as the House grew, found herself feeling on the outside of things. This is the fault of no one; Starky's own interest in the House was in the small community, and sometimes a community can grow too much, too rapidly.
That combine with her own disenchantment with the fandom and her choice to focus on her original writing and own personal life means that Starky herself has chosen to exit stage left from our small community.
Will she ever return? I can not say. though it is with a heavy heart that I must say that it is highly doubtful. Baring some sort of unforeseen miracle from the show or books that rekindles her inspiration, or a ending that she can work with, its likely that we will never get another Starky fanfiction for GOT either.
Like many others in the house, her departure leaves me more then greatly sadden. Starky was the persons whom inspired so many of us, myself included. And for many many others, she is the that planted the Danarya seed in our minds with her wonderful stories. Her absance is keenly felt. And the mark she has left on our ship will likely endure for many years, as she is truly, undisputedly, one of the better writers our ship has had.
On the heels of Starky's departure came another change. Prplmunky, or simply Munky as she is better known, has chosen to step down from her position of Queen's Guard to better focus not only on her original works, but also her family. She remains as ever, active member of our House, though not as active as she once was. In light of her contributions to our tiny corner of the fandom, and because I am ever in need of her wisdom and council as our cranky Valaryian Steel Cane wielding elder of our ship, I have made her a Maester.
Truly; I could do no less, as it was Munky's story which shown like a beacon during the early dark days when the Dany/Arya tag was filled with much muck and filth. And it was her that inspired Starky, whom in-turned inspired so many of us. If there was ever anyone whom could claim the title of founder of our little ship, it would be Munky.
The loss of our original Lord Commanders, and both of our original Queen's Guard, either from disembarkment or a choice to step down, means there has been a gap left in the chain of command here in the House.
Normally, such an announcement would get its own thread, and I will have her introduce herself, or rather reintroduce herself to you in her own time.
The person whom I have chosen to take up the mantle of the White Cloak hardly needs such of course. She has by and large been around since the beginning. Since before the beginning, when a place such as House Danarya was a dream spoken about in the comment section of Starky's and Munky's fanfics. She was also by and large one of the few people responsible for making me not like crazy talking to myself in the early days of the revival of House Danarya.
It is my honor and privilege to be the first to introduce you too your new Queen's Guard: RosePup!
What is a Queen's Guard some of you might wonder? previously, it was little more then a station of honor and privilege. Afforded to Starky and Munky due to their great and lasting contributions to our community. With the own going changes, and as the House grows, the position will now bare responsibilities of a junior admin. My second in command as it were. A Queen's Guard is both admin and moderator. both here and on the discord. and thus, her authority is second only to my own. And should I ever get a holiday, she would act in my stead and in my absence.
SteelGrace shall remain a anointed Knight and moderator. As her responsibilities outside the House being a upper level college student carries great demands of her time and her energy. Though should the House continue to grow by leaps and bounds, she will in the future find the White Clock placed upon her own shoulders.
I know that there has been a great deal of changes within the House, some great, some small. Some rather terrifying. As your Lord Commander I promise to do my best to ensure that the House remains a open and welcoming place for any and all whom ship Danarya, from all walks of life and all corners of the known world. And I promise to do my best to not make any changes that would make me break my first promise. - Gods know some of you must feel like I am a iron fisted ruler given how many members I have deleted since becoming a Lord Commander.
Hopefully however, I will not have to continue to be the bad guy. And can instead move forward and simply enjoy a active and vibrate House Danarya, and a bright future, regardless of what D&D/HBO throws at us come Season 8
