"There must always be a Stark in Winterfell."
How many times is this statement made, both in the books and the HBO series?
There must always be a Stark in Winterfell.
Why is that?
Theorycraft with me, dear House.
We're given many clues to Winterfell being more than just a castle throughout the narrative. And, for some reason, words have been passed down through generations of Starks - words that could possibly be a command - even Catelyn Tully, only married into the Stark line, understands the gravity of the words.
There must always be a Stark in Winterfell.
I bet there is a reason for that. A very key, magical reason. I wonder if Winterfell has properties similar to the Wall itself, and could serve as a ward against the coming dead army?
And I wonder just how the crypts would play into all of that, with so many bones of dead Starks past laid to rest, just waiting to be raised up by one power or another...
