This is topic 1 of 2 of shit Revan thinks about (when she should be sleeping) after days of reading ASOIAF/GOT Wikis and what not.
I know that Starky had posted a thread about "Cool Stuff the HBO series Left Out" from the books. But as I'm bouncing between both the ASOIAF wiki, and the GOT wiki, because even the fandom at large knows they are two separate canons now; I do find myself sticking mainly to the ASOIAF wiki.
There is a lot, I mean ALOT that HBO left out of the TV Show. Like the FACELESS MEN/HOUSE OF BLACK AND WHITE PLOT LINE AND EVERYTHING THERE IN OF. and the DORNE PLOTLINE AND EVERYTHING THERE IN OF. And its really pisses me off. But thats not what this thread is about.
I have the advantage of writing a alt canon verse. A "What if" world, which means I dont strictly have to strictly stick to either canon, I'm able to blend things, ignore events, change timing, have dead characters be alive again. so on and so forth.
And I find I have a lot of things from both, that no matter what, I like to view as "canon" regardless of what canon they originated from. And a lot of things I'm torn about.
Like, okay, for example; Bastard of Bolton, Ramsay Snow/Bolton and that whole cluster fuck.
In the Books, Ramsay weds "Arya Stark" to control Winterfell. "Arya Stark" being Sansa's childhood best friend Jayne Poole who had survived the shit that went down when Ned was captured and all his men killed. Fucking Littlefinger basically took her under his wing, and found a "use" for her, to get her out of the way. A use being its implied heavily she was forced to become a whore in one of his establishments until he hatched the plan to force her to pretend to be Arya, and married her off to Ramsay.
In the show, Ramsay weds Sansa, also arranged by Little Finger. And we all know how that went. (or you dont, because like me that plot line made you sick to your stomach and you didnt watch it)
Either way, Both Jayne and Sansa escape the same way. Theon/Reek.
Either plot line is compleatly fucked up. And both go to show what a total monster both Ramsay and Littlefinger are, though in different ways. (Using the simplefied table top moral alignment chart. Ramsay would be Chaotic Evil, where Little Finger would be Neutral Evil. Ass hats the both of them) Ultimately, as totally shitty as this is I tend to lean to the book as my canon for this plot. If only because as a writer if gives a realitively minor character a chance of character growth and I could work with that.
The only bright spot about about the TV Canon, is that the result ends with Sansa and Jon being reunited, and it gave of potential for nearcest (not quiet incest, because in 'verse kissing cousins are okay) and Jon/Sansa is a guilty-ship of mine.
There are a bunch of TV plot lines and other aspects I do accept into my personal canon though.
Ygritte. Because she needs to tell Jon he knows nothing forever.
Arya and Tywin; one day, I want to write a "what if" about this plotline.
Tywin Lannister being fucking boss
Brianne vs the Hound. Because it was epic. And finally someone realized that Arya is fucking alive.
Rob/Tailsa (Sorry to his book wife, but I like his show wife better. Though perhaps, not her fate, cause its sad and tragic cause Red Wedding)
Tyrion meets Dany early. FUCK YES.
Tyrion isnt as ugly, and didnt loose his nose + Peter Dinklage.
Catelyn dies at the Red Wedding, no Lady Stoneheart because fuck that Red God mess of buillshit.
Bronn, hes better in the show
Possible fully changing facelessmen. Because the possibilities are endless.

Aged up Characters, I think we've all accepted this as canon.
The Actors as the characters. I accept most of them as the faces and voices of the characters. Sean Bean is forever Ned Stark for example
Slightly more likeable Catelyn.
Things from the books I keep as canon
Most of the books. Seriously. most of the books.
Faceless Men plotline and all that goes with it. SO MUCH PLOT LINE AND EPICNESS WASTED BY THE SHOW
Dorne / Martell Plotlines >( (Even if by keeping them that means you have to keep Young Griff)
Jamie doesnt go to Dorne.
Ser Barristan Selmy is alive!
Her name is fucking ASHA, and shes NOT gay.
Character development. Actually fucking character development.
And a story not bluntly focused on Farm Boy Snow.
Dany's Character arc.
Arya's Character arc.
Arya exploring her warg abilities
Jon exploring his warg abilities.
Sansa's character arc.
The Battle of the Fist of the First Men
Tywin actually gave a slight more damn about Tyrion in the books after he was injured.
Jamie and Brianne
Edric Storm
Plot lines I'm indifferent to, and can take or leave depending on what story idea I'm musing about.
Young Griff.
Coldhands
The Reeds
90% of the Grayjoy plotline.
Rob Possibily having legitimized Jon and named him his heir (He did this in the books, not the show. and ehhh)
Most of the Tyrells. - But for Old Lady Tyrell, Margaery and Loras.
Mance Rayder.
Melisandre and her fucking Lord of Light.
The band of brothers, but only if theres no magic bullshit.
Shireen's death.
Arg, theres really so many differences between the two canons when you actually start looking into it. Both big and small differences, and its kinda of mind numbing.
In any cause, the point of this thread is to share our own personal "canons" and how we deal with the differences, both as fans, and as writers.
So. Personal canon! go!
