As we continue on the road to recovery post GoT, I thought it would be interesting to chat about some of the things we thought might happen as we were watching those last schizophrenic episodes and weren't sure what to expect due to the fact it all became a clusterfuck free-for-all.
In Ep 5, The Bells, after Arya and the Hound parted ways and Drogon started raining fiery hell on King's Landing, I actually thought Arya might end up becoming tiny Hound 2.0 with some kind of facial burn.
Why did I think that?
Well, delicious irony, for one. Arya choosing to step away from The Hound's well-worn, lifelong path of hate and vengeance and Bad Table Manners at the last moment actually results in her bearing the same scars/burden as him. This idea was further reinforced with the multiple cuts between the two they were showing during the Cleganebowl & Medieval Black Friday Trampling.
Of course it all amounted to nothing, like pretty much everything else in the entire series... but, ya know.
There were many moments like that for me. Something that still bothers me is the fact that Arya did not use her Faceless Man skills at all this season. Granted some may say she used them to kill the Nigh King but I am specifically referring to changing her face.
I wonder what would have happened if she ran into Jaime who dies after his injuries from Bootleg Jack Sparrow. Arya takes his face and kills Cersei. As she is bleeding out Arya removes her face and says 'The Starks send their regards'. Did Arya's list mean anything? Obviously not.
Instead we see Arya running through the streets of Kinglanding and buildings falling on top of her because they needed her to be there, for reasons?
And what was with the white horse, anyway? I expected a representation of something meaningful, I guess I expected too much? I wondered when I saw the white horse, perhaps the Pale Mare. I asked myself if Arya was one of the things Quaithe warned Dany about. Alas, seems it really did not mean a damn thing.
I honestly can't say that I had, since I lost all faith in good, connected storytelling seasons ago.
Actually, one thing I did think would happen (and/or hoped) is that Jon would die. For realz, this time. Alas, Drogon burnt the chair as if that's the fucking thing that stabbed his mother.
Burnt Arya/Faceless Arya/Queenslayer Arya all sound too good for D&D to come up with. Instead, Arya was there for a simple reason - to emotionally manipulate the audience. 'Look, a character they all love so the horror happening around her will make them simpletons UNDERSTAND what's happening. UNDERSTAND that this burning, is BAD burning. This Dracarys is EVIL.'
The horse... I honestly don't know what the fuck was that about. Deus Ex Machina transportation apparatus or 'Arya will kill Dany' red herring. I, for the life of me, can't figure out what they were trying to pull.

I thought arya died in king's landing. And the white horse was supposed to represent that. Like a spirit ushering her into the next life. I was obviously way wrong. Lol
And I thought for sure she'd disregard the hound and go for cerci, taking Jamie's face to do so. So much wasted opportunity there. Smh.
