“I’m not a Lady, I’m a Wolf!” "He who fights with monsters should be careful lest he thereby become a monster. And if thou gaze long into an abyss, the abyss will also gaze into thee." The tormentor becomes the tormented. People become what they love and hate, because their mind focuses on it."
I mean, we drink other things too, like the salt tears of HBO Sansaery shippers. XD
Bwahaha! That uppity claim on 'mainstream' GoT femslash sure went up in flames, didn't it? >=D
I am stupidly excited because my Christmas present to myself this year was Ardbeg's Corryvwreckan and it probably the most delicious spirit I have had the privilege of consuming.
But we have uncles staying with us that would consume it in a heartbeat, so it's currently stashed in my minivan overnight under a pile of reflective vests and toddler gear.
Beautiful gift to you, from you, with love Starky Stamp of Approval.
I'm mostly just a beer and whiskey sort of girl. Rum is okay too. And some ciders. Not really a wine person though. IPAs are disgusting. Vodka and Tequila are for mix drinks only. Gin is never okay.
This here also gets a Starky Stamp of Approval - with the slight caveat that Mix Drinks are generally for Children and the Elderly XD
My dad had me try tons of different beer to find one I liked, but beer is not my poison of choice. Aquavit, smirnoff (though dad will say its to wine cooler), ciders, meads, etc. Dad's favorite Guinness though has always been to much like chewing though.
My dad and I went drinking together only once. His beer of choice is awful (Miller's Lite Genuine Draft, aka Bunny Piss), and he stared at me with some weird mix of admiration/horror as I enjoyed neat whiskey without so much as ice to dilute it.
..My dad sits firmly in the aforementioned category of Children and the Elderly when it comes to drinking -_-;;
Guinness is a respectable favorite.
When I do turn to beer, I like a rich Imperial Stout. Or whatever is closest to that - dark ale of some kind. I also drink black coffee, so there may be a theme here
Tap rooms are awesome, they put a seemingly pretentious Stein garden next to the movie theater closest to Apple's flying saucer and MrsMunky and I stopped by after managing to go out on a Star Wars movie date (so, twice in one week sans toddler, it really must be a Christmas miracle).
With this kind of luck, it is time to rush out and buy a lottery ticket. Strike while the iron is hot, Munky!
It was legitimately awesome inside, and they had bar flights, so I discovered the wonders of kolch, witbier, and a stout made from yams. Plus pretzel, amazing pub cheese, and hella elevated corn dogs and donuts. (I now wager starky is hungry 🛎 )
;_; how did you know? -stomach growls- ..is Pub Breakfast a thing? It must be, after all Irish people do exist.
There is an amazing mead place in San Francisco that was doing samples in a Whole Foods and blew my mind, SF Mead Company they do a dry fermentation where they don't add sugar beyond the initial honey, so you can taste everything in it without feeling like you drank sugar water.
This sounds much better than the mead I tried.
I was curious after I started watching Vikings, so I picked up a bottle. And I could barely get through one cup it was so frickin' sweet. It was jarring - you've got these badass, brutal warriors and their drink of choice is sweeter than a kid's mug of oversweetened kool-aid.
I also went through a hard rootbeer phase, I think most of the early Starky comments in WtSRitE are her cheering on my hard rootbeer consumption.
So true. And I still have a six pack of Coney Island sitting here in your honor, Munky. It took a while, but eventually the trend caught on here on the north side of the Wall, and now there's a whole aisle dedicated to Hard!Soda drinks of all different varieties.
Mead is honey wine. And like all wines, it ranges between bitter, to tart to super sweet. and everything in between. Same with Cider to actually. Ciders can be more on the wine side of things instead of the sweet earthy beverage we know. It also comes in more then just apple. - Both these things are important to keep in mind, either when looking to try something new youreself... or when writing about a character drinking said drinks.
Also, important to keep in mind for lore reason. Booze, such as ales, in ASOIAF would be served, at best, slightly cool from the cellar. But mostly room temp. And flat, because carbonation was not a thing
Btw, its amazing how these topics keep getting... completely derailed.
I feel like HBO Canon and alcohol go hand in hand though.
Be the change you want to see in the world.
Because if that's the line that reeled in Starky, someone else could be out there too, waiting for the courage to step forward and share their thoughts and talents. We're really not as scary as you might think

Yes they probably do. I myself am looking forward to my Aquavit and massives amounts of food then I hope to gift a couple of snippets to House Danarya. Spoilers

i hope he finishes the book series. he has the basic plot outline, but he keeps getting into these other projects and his books are monster huge and complicated. worst case scenario if he dies before ever finishing it they might edit and release what he did have finished similar to tolkien...
I did buy Fire and Blood. The illustrations are beautiful. the story is written as if by a Maester. Very dry. Love all the dragon names.
in buying the book i talked to the book store owner. he told me had read that GRRM basically has said "I am beating my head against the keyboard". he has major league writer's block.
He has stipulated in his will he says that no one will have the rights to move the story forward. he wants it to be him or no one.
Sorry for the bad news. i agree with Starky. The story will not be finished.

So. Its basically written in the same style as The World of Ice and Fire.
And ya. GRRM basically wrote himself into a corner and did things or killed people he really shouldnt have previously.
I dont have a lot of hope of him finishing the last two books. We might get Winds of Winter. But I'm not sure about a Dream of Spring.

I read a thing on Quora by Mercedes Lackey about writer’s block (https://www.quora.com/What-do-experienced-writers-understand-that-new-writers-dont). And as much as I want to say ‘writer’s block is totally a thing’ I have to wonder. Often when I’m feeling stuck it’s because the way I want something to play out just isn’t going to work. Might be different for GRRM, but I read that he knew the ending before he started writing and I have to wonder if the characters he developed still fit that ending. Also have to wonder why he wouldn’t hire a ghost writer, revise as require, and publish something. But that’s just me I guess.

I always figured that some type of issues with the plot would happen after I heard that he rewrote the 4th/5th books because the time jump he originally wrote wasn't working out. When he scrapped that, I figured issues were going to pop up everywhere since his originally plan was deviated from so much.
