..it was my favorite television network, hands down.
For two reasons:
1. Six Feet Under
2. The Sopranos
The Sopranos needs no introduction. Even if you haven't watched it, you've likely heard of it. This show was the turning point for television as we know it - TV was second rate before The Sopranos. It wasn't respected like movies were. An actor (actress) wasn't considered successful if they hadn't made the leap to the Silver Screen - Until. The. Sopranos.
And RIP, James Gandolfini. I'll back every scene you are in against any Hollywood charm child any day of the week.
But Six Feet Under, while very successful, didn't get the same buzz. It started airing 1 year after The Sopranos (once HBO realized 'hey, this whole series thing? There's something to it, and we want more) and always remained in its big brother's very impressive shadow.
But the reality is.. it was better than The Sopranos. And the real reason why it didn't overtake its impressive big brother was because it scared people.
People don't like to think about a lot of the topics covered in that series, first and foremost being death - and the meaning of your own life before you meet that end. But there was so much more covered in between the slices of that Reaper sandwich, if only more people had given it a shot.
The series started perfectly, and it ended perfectly. And everything in between, was so humanly imperfect that I still haven't found a series to this day that surpasses it. And believe me.. I've tried.
If you are ever looking to watch something that will really touch you, to a point where it will haunt you (in the best way) - open up your favorite streaming/torrent site and give Six Feet Under a chance.
..Just be prepared for Sia's 'Breathe Me' to be ruined for you forever when all is said and done.
