New to all this, so be gentle. I am an old script writer and the wonderful people of the Danarya community have inspired me to do some writing, once again. Please excuse my silly questions regarding how all this posting works, and be advised, I am a bit rusty.
I'm more then happy to answer your silly questions! Being new to a site can be a little confusing if you're not used to the set up.
And rusty is fine! We all have to shake off rust now and then and get back into the swing of creativity. Theres a lot of great resources on lore and other such things buried somewhere in the forums. Sadly theres nothing on script writing, but theres some tips and tricks for writing in general that might help.
And theres a on going Headcanon Drabble challenge I've started up if you wanna test the waters and get some practice in writing Danarya fanfic before trying to tackle a larger project.
Hi Ravenstar, it was you and Starky that made me crack my knuckles and start back up, so thank you. Tell me more about this challenge. I have 3 Danarya stories swimming in my brain and a challenge might help my fish them out.

Welcome, lawlessness, rusty is the name of the game here. I feel like my typing fingers need the Tin Man's oil can.
At least with a background in script writing you should be great at snappy dialogue?
Be the change you want to see in the world.
Because if that's the line that reeled in Starky, someone else could be out there too, waiting for the courage to step forward and share their thoughts and talents. We're really not as scary as you might think
Been reading (and re-reading) When the Sun Rises in the East. Dialogue is the easiest part for me. I was in the process of turning my last script into and novel and never finished, dissolution in the industry broke me down a bit. Saying all that, just to say, that 3 years of reading fanfic at Archive has started the creative juices flowing, so thank you.
Ouch, yeah, I had a lot of friends in college who did the Performing Arts track, most of the scripts are for plays, so they get more freedom, but I can't even imagine the pitches and soul crushing required to survive within the film industry.
And thank you for the compliments, parts of me still cringe at those early chapters of WtSRitE, I think I made a huge developmental leap after the Red Priest chapter, I've spent the last year learning about plot structure and storytelling (and watching Brandon Sanderson's YouTube'd creative writing lectures from BYU) but now I'm getting hung up on proper form and world/character building when it's not, well, done for you with a fan genre.
But since the latest season of GoT throws travel schedules to the winds (350 miles overland in Winter, and then 2700 from White Harbor in a ship in a week? SURE. TARDIS's for all) I'll stop being so hard on myself about timeline scheduling and maybe I might just pick up where I left off.

Scripts are easier because I really didn't have to do that, fortunately I am also an graphic artist so I did sketches of locations. Not much describing there. My characters always talked to me (weird, I know) at the most inopportune moments, so I recorded myself speaking dialogue in the weirdest places. Most at the time people would look at me strangely on the train, but it is New York, after all.

Yeah, I finally just gave up in figuring out how things work as far as travel times go. Like I found a good resource that helps figure out travel speeds and distances and I can do the basic math... and I know that Walking < Running < Horse < Ship < Raven < Dragon. But honestly, fuck it.
I'd double or triple any travel time for winter depending on conditions. So if in the story it takes a month to get from Winterfell to King's Landing. Then in the worse of winter it would take three months to make the same trip.
at least thats what I'm going with here more or less.

But when you say the dialog outloud do you do the voices? =D Like how crazy are you gonna look to the poor tourist on the subway?
I did mostly anime fantasy, had one of my scripts developed and had a 10 animated reel, but producers made too many changes that it just crushed me. That is when I decided to turn my last script into a novel, that proved to be too difficult.
Of course I do the voices, it would be silly if I didn't
You gotta do what you gotta do.
The cool thing about this group of crazies, is that we are so down for bouncing ideas off of eachother and exchanging tips and advice.
I'm good at description, comes from being an artist I think. (I'm the writing behind Frosted Faith btw xD) Starky is amazing at taking tiny scraps of lore and running with them and building onto the world of ASOIAF. What she did with Bravvos is inspirational. (I'm good at taking lore and intergrating it into a story) Some people here are good with coming up with plot twists, making characters flawed. Some are better at doing the sex/writing smut. Others right cavity inducing fluff.
Youre good at dialog.
So theres def an exchange here, and we try to build eachother up and make eachother better.
So while you might struggle with converting a script format story thats basically all dialog and basic action descriptors into a novel now... you likely wont later.
Welcome~ This forum is a place for all Dany x Arya shippers to meet up and discuss the world, the lore, and the wonderful characters who make this ship! Have fun, everyone!
